01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Climb the stairs in Shinjuku 3-chome and open the door on the 2th floor, and you step straight into the easygoing rhythm of an American-style diner. Castle Rock operates as an unpretentious steakhouse, turning out hearty burgers and steaks by day, then shifting into craft beer, barbecue, and small plates come evening.

Hearty signature burgers and custom combinations

The centerpiece of the daytime menu is the house Castle Rock Burger. Built with a 100% beef patty, house-made bacon, a fried egg, avocado, and cheese, it lets diners choose between rich cheddar and distinctive blue cheese. The wider burger selection accommodates whatever mood strikes, from a straightforward cheeseburger to the zesty heat of a cheese-and-jalapeño build or the bright, tangy kick of a salsa burger. At lunchtime, burgers arrive with chips included.

Lava-grilled steaks and slow-cooked BBQ ribs

For those who prefer their meat served straight, the kitchen cooks steaks over a lava-rock grill, locking in juices and imparting a satisfying smoky finish. A broad range of cuts and portions is available, including weekday steak lunch sets served alongside soup and salad for an accessible midday meal. Just as famous is the slow-cooked BBQ spare ribs, a house specialty since the restaurant first opened. Glazed in a deeply sweet and savory proprietary barbecue sauce, they work equally well as a communal centerpiece or a rich accompaniment to drinks.

Craft beer and savory drinking fare

Evening visits bring a well-considered drink selection, featuring American and European craft beers alongside pours like the Real Half, a layered blend of Sapporo Black Label and Guinness. The snack menu leans heavily into beer-friendly plates: spicy Buffalo wings, gooey macaroni and cheese, and pulled beef served over slices of baguette for picking at between rounds. Set back from the busy streets outside, it is also the sort of room where lingering over a slice of hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream feels like the natural conclusion.
